Hi Friends!
Today I am participating in a Crafty Challenge Blog Hop for World Water Day!
We were given a picture as inspiration ...
And the theme of Water.
I had just watched a video by Lilian Withers who did a watery background using sponging and Embossing Paste, so I knew right away what I was going to do.
Here's the card I came up with ....
I created the background by sponging Pool Party, Balmy Blue, Pacific Point and Misty Moonlight in a big circle starting with the Pool Party and working my way out. Then I added some Shimmery White Embossing Paste in small splotches using one of the palette knives.
I set that aside to dry and stamped the shells, from the Friends Are Like Seashells stamp set, on Basic White cardstock using Crumb Cake, and Petal Pink inks. The seaweed was stamped in Mint Macaron also on Basic White.
Then I used the Seaside Shells dies to cut out the shells, sand dollar, star fish and small seaweed. The seaweed at the top of the shells was die cut from Rainbow Glimmer Paper.
Once the shells were die cut, I used a post it note to hold them in place in the Seashells Embossing Folder and ran it through my Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine. Adding that bit of texture to the shells changed the whole card!
I used the Stitched Rectangle dies to die cut a piece of Pacific Point for the background, and I created a frame from Thick Basic White. The frame was then popped it up on Dimensionals over the sponged background after it had dried for a while.
I used the Seashells embossing folder to emboss a piece of vellum and placed that on top of the card base. Then layered all the elements as shown.
The sentiment is also from the Friends Are Like Seashells stamp set, stamped in Memento and die cut with the Messages die.
The inside was also sponged with crumb cake in the bottom left corner, then I stamped the images also in Crumb Cake over top of it. The envelope was sponged and stamped the same way.
I had a lot of fun creating this card and letting my imagination run with the water theme. This is a particularly fitting theme for my blog post today as we head out for our annual spring camping trip to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. We camp at a campsite right beside the ocean and spend every day on the beach!
