Hot Foiling on Acetate with Butterfly Flight and Botanical Glow

Hi Friends!

Have you ever tried hot foiling on acetate? This technique adds another whole dimension to the Hot Foiling System, and I had so much fun using it on this butterfly thank-you card!

For this project we combined two different Stampin’ Up! hot foiling bundles — Butterfly Flight and Botanical Glow. I love being able to mix products together, especially when they complement each other as beautifully as these two do.

The Botanical Glow images create that gorgeous leafy background, while the Butterfly Flight images become the stars of the card. I used soft peachy tones for the butterflies and layered them over the colourful foliage. The yellow gingham background adds another pattern without taking attention away from those butterflies.

But the really fun part of this card is the hot foiling on acetate.

Acetate gives you a completely different surface to work with, and adding hot foil creates a beautiful detail while still allowing the layers underneath to show through. During the video tutorial, I walk you through how I hot foil the acetate and share the tips I use to get a good result.

There’s quite a bit happening on this card, but because the different elements are layered together, it still feels light and airy. I especially love how the large butterfly becomes the focal point while the smaller butterflies lead your eye through the design.

And then there’s that big thank you sentiment across the front. The gold foiling ties beautifully into the rest of the card and gives it just the right finishing touch.

This card is one Stampin' Up! created for the recent FREE Hot Foiling Class.

If you have the Hot Foiling System and have mainly been foiling cardstock so far, give acetate a try! It’s another fun way to get more use from your system and opens up all sorts of possibilities for future projects.

The complete video tutorial is included below so you can see exactly how I created the card, including the hot foiling on acetate, measurements and supplies.

I hope this inspires you to pull out your Hot Foiling System and experiment with a different surface. And if you try hot foiling on acetate, I’d love to hear how it goes! 💜

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create this elegant butterfly birthday card using the beautiful Butterfly Flight Hot Foiling Dies. One of the things I love most about this collection is that you don't need a stamp set to create stunning focal images. The foiling plates and coordinating dies do all the work, giving you beautifully detailed butterflies with a gorgeous gold finish.

During the video, I'll demonstrate the complete process from start to finish. You'll learn how to use the Hot Foiling System, foil the butterfly images, cut them with the coordinating dies, and assemble the finished card. Along the way, I'll share the tips and techniques I've discovered to help you achieve beautiful foiled results every time.

The soft pink background, delicate gold foiling, and layered butterflies combine to create a clean and elegant birthday card that's suitable for many occasions. Whether you're new to hot foiling or already experimenting with this exciting new tool, I hope this project inspires you to give it a try.

Be sure to watch the complete video tutorial below, where I'll walk you through every step of the project. You'll also find the complete supply list and measurements below so you can recreate this beautiful card in your own craft room.

💜 I'd love to know what you think! Are butterflies one of your favourite card themes, or is there another Hot Foiling collection you're excited to try? Leave me a comment below.
