All About Stampin' Blends - Bronze, Ivory and Colour Lifter Video

Hi Friends!

Today's video is by Stampin' Up! and it is about the Colour Lifter, Bronze and Ivory markers.  The Stampin' Blends by Stampin' Up! are the brand new, fun to use, alcohol markers.  There are so many techniques and ideas on using these markers, I am sure you will be able to find something that excites you and gives you some enjoyment.

The main thing to remember is that alcohol markers are made to blend together to give a seamless light to dark blending on a stamped image.  The type of cardstock you use is very, very important.  The Blends are made to soak into the paper and wait for the next layer of ink to be applied.  If you don't have the correct paper, one of two things will happen:

#1 your ink will bleed beyond the stamped image
#2 you will not be able to blend the colours so they look natural

The next most important thing is to use Memento inks to stamp your image.  Memento is a dye based ink which means it is water based.  You need to have a different medium for your stamped image compared to the Blends alcohol markers so when you are colouring your image the Blends do not reactivate the ink from the image and blur it, or worse still, wick the ink up into the tip of your Blends marker and destroy it.

Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White cardstock has long been the go to paper for artists using alcohol inks.  I did a lot of colouring with alcohol inks about 10 years ago and I tried out different papers and usually ended up with a smeared ugly image. I was very lucky to have a good friend (Hi Candy) show me how to blend correctly. They were invaluable lessons.

Also, do not use watercolour paper.  This paper is made to really soak up any liquid medium and that is NOT what you want to do with alcohol markers.  You want the ink to sink into the paper, yes, but you do not want it to be absorbed, it has to stay active and ready for the next layer.  Watercolour paper will not do that, it soaks it up and makes it unblendable.

I am having a Colouring - All About Blends class on February 13th where we will learn 3 different ways to use and blend the Stampin' Blends markers.  If you would like to join us, please EMAIL ME and we can make arrangements.  If there is any interest, I am thinking about an online class where I will have some videos showing how to do the techniques.
