Salted Background Technique

Salted Background technique card .....

This was a card we made during my Salted Background Technique Class.  We used the By The Tide stamp set by Stampin' Up!  This is another very versatile set that can be used for many things.  The background turns out different each time you do it, and you can use glossy, shimmery or whisper white cardstock for it.  Just don't let the salt dry too long on top or you have a difficult time scraping it off!!!!

Stamps:  By The Tide,  Create A Cupcake (R)
Ink:  Calypso Coral, Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight
Paper:  Glossy White, Whisper White, Marina Mist
   Other:  Modern Label Punch

Well, we are almost done in Kelowna, and heading back home.  Can't wait to see those cute, cuddly Grandsons of ours.  We have been gone quite a while and Gramma is having hugging pangs!!  LOL.  My posting over the summer will be spotty as some of the time we will be in places of our great province that do not have internet.  But I will be back again steady in September with some great new projects to share with you.  I hope to do some posting from Convention in July.

I hope you have a super duper summer and stay safe everyone.

Fancy Fold 3D Kleenex Card

The cutest card ever for someone who needs a pick me up, or who is under the weather ....

Isn't this the cutest card?  It was another make 'n take project from our Vancouver Island demo group meeting.  This one was presented by my friend Mi Ran Bigrigg from Victoria.  A very talented stamper that has been showcased a few times on my blog.  To create the kleenex box inside, you cut a piece of cardstock 5 x 3, scored at 1, 2-1/2, 3-1/2.  Fold over the short panel and punch both layers with the Scallop Oval Punch.  Then adhere the ends to the inside of the card and voila, it opens up when you open the card!  How clever.

   Stamps:  Field Flowers
   Ink:  Primrose Petals, Old Olive
Paper:  Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Whisper White, Primrose Petals
Other:  Square Lattice EF, Whisper White Baker's Twind, Scallop Oval Punch

Have a great day, I am busy getting ready for the Stampin' Up! Convention in July.  Getting so excited!!!!

Peacock Glimmer card - World Treasures

A fun little ditty of a card meant to make you smile .....

I purchased this stamp when it was available as a single stamp last year, but you can still get it in the World Treasures stamp set.  I used Pink Pirouette ink direct to the Honeycomb embossing folder and it resulted in this great background.  I did not use a brayer as I wanted a bit of a distressed look.  If you look closely you will notice the ink is not uniform all over the background.  Silver Glimmer paper is used to spark things up a bit, then some tiny Basic Pearls have been coloured with a pink sharpie marker.  The peacock is stamped in VersaMark and then embossed in Pool Party embossing powder.  The ribbon is now retired, but I don't have any other Pool Party ribbon to use.  Yet!!!  hahaha

Stamps:  World Treasures peacock, Party This Way (R)
Ink:  Versa Mark, Pool Party, Pink Pirouette
   Paper:  Whisper White, Silver Glimmer
Other:  Honeycomb EF, Ovals Framelits, mini Basic Pearls, Pool Party Ruffled ribbon (R), Modern Label Punch, Word Window Punch, Pool Party EPowder

Hope you are having a super, duper day!  Happy Stampin' ....

Shimmery French Foliage card

I know this stamp set has retired, but I just love this card and decided to share it anyways.

Back in February, the Vancouver Island Demonstrator group got together.  We meet twice a year and have a "mini regional event".  We have make 'n takes, swaps, discussions and lunch.  Not to mention all the catching up in each others lives.  This card was a make 'n take by Karen Vanderberg from Qualicum Beach, BC.  It is a deceptively simple card.  You have to create a "reverse mask" of sorts out of a piece of scrap cardstock 3-3/4 x 5 (which is the same size as the white layer on the front), then using the new Stampin' Trimmer you cut a hole in the middle measuring 3 x 1-3/4.  Lay it over the white cardstock and sponge (or use a dauber) Old Olive ink in the hole, you will want complete coverage. Then spritz Gold Smooch Spritz (also retired now) over the ink before you remove the reverse mask.  All that is left is to stamp the images as shown.  Thank you Karen, for sharing this great technique.  Now I have to re-create it with current products.

   Stamps:  French Foliage, Beautiful Birthday
   Ink:  Basic Black, Old Olive
Paper:  Whisper White, Old Olive, Basic Black
Other:  Gold Smooch Spritz, Reverse Mask layer (instructions above)

Floral 3D Hostess Thank You

I recently had an in home workshop and made this up for my Hostess .......

These plastic 'button' containers from Stampin' Up! are just the right size to decorate many, many ways for my Hostesses.  This container happened to contain some of the soon to be retired Soda Pop Tops.  Oh how I will miss these little gems.

   Stamps:  Blooming With Kindness
   Ink:  Cherry Cobbler
Paper:  Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, Old Olive, Baked Brown Sugar
Other:  2-1/2" Circle Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Petals Punch, button container, Large oval punch, Vine St EF (R), Soda Pop Top - large

To make the leaves, I punched Old Olive cardstock with the large oval punch, ran them through the Big Shot with the Vine St embossing folder and folded them in half.  Turned out great!  The center of the Soda Pop Top is stamped with the Blooming With Kindness stamp in Cherry Cobbler and punched out with the 1" Circle Punch.

Square Floral card - cased

I normally try to stay away from cruising around Pinterest because I know, if I get started there, my whole day will fly by!  But sometimes I venture into that vast land of awesome cards, and this is one of the cards I cased from there ....

Don't you just love the three pearls in the swirl pattern on the upper right hand side of this card?  They are Stampin' Up! Basic Pearls that I coloured with a black Sharpie marker.  I am unsure who the originator of this card is, but thank you! I truly love cards that are mostly white with one or two colours thrown in for a punch. This would also make a great sympathy card.

  Stamps:  Create A Cupcake (R)
  Ink:  StazOn (or Basic Black)
Paper:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Rose Red, Lucky Limeade (R) or Old Olive
Other:  Little Leaves die, Boho Blossom punch (R), Basic Pearls, black sharpie, Word Window punch

Give it a try, you will have a great time creating it too.

Swallowtail Sympathy card - cased

Keeping with the Butterfly sympathy theme, I have another one to share with you today using the Swallowtail stamp ....

I saw this card on Jackie Topa's blog Addicted to Stamping.  I believe it was a card cased by "Wilma", but I am unsure who the originator is.  I love the quiet peacefulness of it.  Once again it uses En Francais as a background stamp.  I just love this stamp and hope it is around for a very long time.
I stamped the Swallowtail on copy paper and cut it out to create a mask.  You stamp the Swallowtail on the white cardstock first, then put the mask over the stamped image and stamp En Francais in Basic Gray over top of the mask.  Then I sponged some Soft Sky ink very, very lightly on the white cardstock avoiding the butterfly, so it remained white.

Stamps:  Swallowtail, En Francais, Loving Thoughts
Ink:  Soft Sky, Versa Mark, Basic Gray
  Paper:  Whisper White, Soft Sky
Other:  Black Embossing Powder, copy paper (for mask), sponge

Try this great technique, it is easy and carries quite a punch of peaceful quietude.

Masked Butterfly Sympathy Card

When you become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, you get access to the exclusive Stampin' Success Magazine that Stampin' Up! publishes.  It is full of great ideas, and this card is one of them .....

.....

To make this card, you cut out a "mask" in a piece of copy paper using the Beautiful Butterflies die (the biggest whole butterfly).  Then you place it over your cardstock and hold it in place with sticky notes.  Then you stamp the En Francais background stamp in Pool Party right over top of the mask.  Then, with the mask still in place, you sponge on Soft Sky in the whole of the mask. When you remove the mask, you are left with this great image.  I finished it off with some Basic Pearls and a Raspberry Ripple heart from the Owl Punch.

  Stamps:  En Francais, Petite Pairs
Ink:  Pool Party, Soft Sky, Raspberry Ripple
  Paper:  Whisper white
Other:  Copy paper, Beautiful Butterflies die, sticky notes, sponge, Basic Pearls, Owl Punch

This card is light weight if you have to mail it, but I would use smaller pearls if you do.

Wildflower Meadow in Coastal Cabana

The new Wildflower Meadow Bundle by Stampin' Up! is a truly awesome set!

As promised, here is the card we made at my recent Tea Party.  Everyone who attended had the opportunity to make this great card and take it home with them.  When we were shown the sneak peek items we could pre-order as Stampin' Up! Demonstrators, I was unsure about this bundle.  But the more I looked at it, the more I saw it's possibilities.  I think my favourite new In Colour is this one, Coastal Cabana.  It is cool, yet warm, and crisp while being inviting.  I can see myself using a lot of this ink and cardstock.  Can't wait until the catalogue goes live on May 31st, to order some ribbon to go with it.
I also used the brand new Label Love bundle.  It consists of a great stamp and co-ordinating new Artisan Label punch!  Whoo hoo, I LOVE bundles.  Not only do the products co-ordinate with each other, but you can buy the bundle at a 15% savings from buying the products individually.  Now what can be better than that?

   Stamps:  Wildflower Meadow, Label Love
Ink:  Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Basic Black marker
   Paper:  Whisper White, Coastal Cabana
Other:  Wildflower Meadow EF, Artisan Label punch, Perfect Polka Dot EF, Basic Rhinestones

There are 10 Bundles in the new catalogue.  Here is a list of them complete with page numbers ....
  1.  Chalk Talk - page 12                             2.  Label Love - page 32
  3.  Backyard Basics - page 79                    4.  Wildflower Meadow - page 83
  5.  Flower Shop - page 95                          6.  Beautifully Baroque - page 113
  7.  Mosaic Madness - page 123                  8.  Six Sided Sampler - page 125
  9.  Tag A Bag - page 159                           10.  Tag A Box - page 159

Check them out!!!  Then Happy Stampin' ....

Cupcake Birthday card

Although this card has some retired products on it, I wanted to share it with you because you can adapt it with supplies from Stampin' Up! that are still available ......

I had a lot of fun creating this card.  It was one of the cards we did in my May "Girls" Stamp-A-Stack.  What little (or not so little) girl wouldn't love to receive this on her birthday?????  You could adapt it to any colour scheme if your girly girl is not into pinks.
To make the background, I put my Pretty In Pink ink pad directly on the inside of the Honeycomb Embossing Folder and smooshed it around to spread the ink.  Then ran the white cardstock through my Big Shot.  I did not use a brayer as I wanted the distressed look.

Stamps:  Summer Silhouettes, Netting background stamp (R), Henry Says (sentiment) (R), Woodgrain background stamp
Ink:  Pretty In Pink (R), Real Red
Paper:  Whisper White, Pool Party, Pretty In Pink (R), Silver Glimmer, Red Glimmer
Other:  Honeycomb EF, Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon (R), 1-1/4" Scallop Circle Punch, Soda Pop Top (R), 1/2" Circle Punch, Cupcake Punch, Elegant Lines EF (R)

Makes me want to make some cupcakes.  I recently had an Open House Tea Party to reveal the new 2013-14 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue and I made 146 Mini Cupcakes.  They were sooooo cute, and boy did we have a fabulous day.  We even did a make 'n take which I will share with you next post.
